Lavender I was inspired by the lavender hedge I planted along the railings fronting the Old School House; it flowers all summer, the smell is divine and the bees adore it. I experimented with different background colours with this series. Lavender I is harmonious pinks and purples with unexpected pops of lime green. You never quite know how it will turn out, until it’s done, but I love the colours in this piece.
Rachel incorporates texture and collage media into each layer of her paintings; vintage books, newspapers, tissue paper, printed paper, along with acrylic inks, paints and mediums to create depth and texture. She creates her own printed papers and draws with collage and acrylic paint until the colours vibrate.
